When I write songs I always take my glasses off, says Rodan - INTERVIEW

The story of that album is actually pretty interesting. When I write songs I always take my glasses off so I can connect to worlds I created in my head. Songs on that album are about those worlds but the only way the listener could understand the stories in those songs, he/she has to take his “glasses” off so he/she could connect to my worlds and understand it.

Marie: Rodan, how did you get to writing songs, playing music and since when do you perform in public?

I remember that I got my first guitar like 4-5 years ago. I learned 4 basic chords during the first week and then wrote my first song which was obviously shit:DD. But even though it was a terrible song I fell in love with songwriting and I do that all the time since then.

Marie: Tell us about the singles/album you released already. What are the stories behind the songs and what was your inspiration for this?

I released my debut album “Glasses Off” a couple of months ago.

Marie: How does the audience in Czech Republic respond to your genre?

I would say that it’s hard for someone who defines himself as a songwriter these days because people mostly listen to rap but I’m sure that 2023’s gonna be a game changer for me and my music and hopefully it’s gonna reach new people)

Marie: Do you have an upcoming releases, what is the plan and can you tell us what we can look forward to?

I can’t tell exactly what’s the plan for 2023 because it’s still an intern thing. But I can say that it’s definitely gonna be massive with some BIG news!

Marie: Are your songs autobiographical or do they come from your imagination, or both?

Both. I used to write songs that were ONLY from my imagination but now I’m trying to focus on writing about my life experiences because I feel it’s more natural and organic.

Marie: Which of these songs have you chosen to play for (A)VOID sessions, and why?

I decided to choose one of my favorite songs of mine “I Don’t Believe in Love”. I think it has a great chorus and I feel it could be relatable a lot.

Marie: You’ve been influenced by artists some people may not be that familiar with such as Dermot Kennedy, Ed Sheeran or Lewis Capaldi. How would you identify your conscious and unconscious influences on your upcoming debut album?

I really tried my best to make my debut album as much unique as possible so I pushed myself a lot to not take references from Lewis, Dermot or Ed because I wanted to create something new and I hope that happened)

Marie: How would you like for your music to be received? Where and when should people listen to it best?

Anytime and anywhere. That’s what I love about music that no matter what style it is, you can listen to it no matter when and no matter where.

Marie: Do you listen to much music on Spotify, and if so, what are the top releases we should check out?

I listen to music all the time:D I can definitely recommend you an Irish artist  Dermot Kennedy! Especially his old tracks like “After Rain” or  “A Closeness”. I guarantee you’re gonna fall in love with his voice and his beautiful and sometimes even spiritual lyrics.

Marie: And finally, what are your plans for 2023?

As I mentioned before, I can’t tell exactly what we’re planning for the upcoming year but it’s gonna be HUGE!
