REVIEW: Taking the step in the right direction with The Hit - Peter Aristone (SK)

Peter Aristone came to film an acoustic version of “Far”, a single out of his most recent studio album The Hit. This album was co-produced by Mark Plati, a former collaborator of David Bowie, and as Peter says himself, the choice of team had to do with him looking for a more honest expression and not wanting to adjust too much to the way the songs will be perceived. And we agree it was a good direction to choose.

I consider this album to be my first regular album where I feel like “this is me”. If anyone came to me and asked what my music sounded like, I’d recommend the album The Hit to them. It combines all my modes of expression. Everything I have done in the past, starting with metal, across all genres, I find they all found their way to the album.

The song Far is an introspection into what it feels like to experience a transformation you don’t feel sorry about. Becoming a father of two cost him his bohemianism, but rooted in the love for his family, he realised that he found more confidence in his own creative expression.

When writing the album The Hit, that meant to resist the pressure from the outside and not giving in to stereotype. He took inspiration in albums released in the seventies such as Queen, which had the courage to cover a larger spectrum of genres, sounds and moods than was the norm and thus definitely going against the mainstream tendencies of the time.

The final 11 songs of the album made the cut so as to be as diverse as could be without losing coherence. Knowing at the back of his mind that this album would still be judged for that, it sounds like he even chose the name The Hit being prepare to take one.

LYRICS:

What it means to be melting away

See the smoke take shape without warning

Saw the sweep of the see

With no aching

Understood while you stand on the mountain

Drained runner drifting by a dream

Spinning over the time

Receding

Got no place to hide

it makes me chase the sky

and I wonder why

I’m running away

In the storm I can’t stop myself

Feel the burning ash in my hand

Far in my soul

Tearing my soul

Woo Woo Woo woo woo

Deep in my soul

Healing my soul

What do you hide inside beyond the grin

Have you heard the bird sing we swing

Pick up the tears on the shoreline

What a fake dream

Got some truth and the blues for the morning

Learning to live without the diamond ring

fancy shirt in the dirt

and the phantom fame

Got no place to hide

it makes me chase the sky

and I wonder why

I’m running away

In the storm I can’t stop myself

Feel the burning ash in my hand

Far in my soul

Tearing my soul

Woo Woo Woo woo woo

Deep in my soul

Healing my soul
