I would like to be compared to Lorde or Dua Lipa, says A n n a b e l l e in our INTERVIEW

I listen to a lot of music every day so I’m constantly inspired. I love the New Music Friday playlist on Spotify so I was super excited to be on the cover of it after releasing Anxiety.

Marie: Tell me, how did you become a singer, and how did you get to writing music?

Annabelle: I was singing since I was a little kid. And I always wanted to become a singer so there wasn’t a particular breaking point like “Okay, I’ll make music for a living!” My whole life is sort of heading there. I wrote music since I was around 6 and it’s very natural for me. But I mean, you get better every day, I am not super proud of the first songs I’ve written, haha.

Marie: You performed ‘Anxiety’ for us. Can you share the backstory behind it?

Annabelle: I wrote Anxiety on a beautiful hot sunny day in spring. I felt so happy after such a long time and I wanted to write about it while also reflecting on the bad times I’ve been experiencing. I suffer from anxiety and I’m happy that more and more people are willing to share their experience with this condition.

Marie: Where do you source your inspiration from?

Annabelle: I listen to a lot of music every day so I’m constantly inspired. I love the New Music Friday playlist on Spotify so I was super excited to be on the cover of it after releasing Anxiety.

Marie: How would you describe your music?

Annabelle: Honest. I like to experiment with the sound but the content is always something very true to me.

Marie: Where do you perform more, in Czech Republic or abroad? What music scene do you prefer to perform in and why?

Annabelle: Well obviously I don’t have many gigs now, but generally speaking most of my gigs were always in the Czech Republic. I used to study music in London so I performed there a lot and loved it each time. The British audience is much more lively I’d say.

Marie: Who are your musical heroes?

Annabelle: Oh, there are too many. Lorde, Post Malone, Roddy Ricch, Julia Michaels, Sam Smith, Dua Lipa, 24kgldn, Bea Miller, James Blake, slowthai and many many more.

Marie: What do you do when you’re not playing music?

Annabelle: I love doing yoga, going out, I’m learning to cook. I never really cooked before but now I got myself a boyfriend and I kind of don’t want to poison him.

Marie: Professionally, what’s your goal for 2021?

Annabelle: Have a track on top of the UK Singles Chart!

And now 5 quickfire questions:

Name 5 top releases of 2020 you think are great songs to dance to.

What superpower would you have and why?

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

That the mind is like a flowerbed and that you gotta be extra careful with what you plant in it.
